We are all Ministers Witnessing for Christ in Our Community

This month of June at Memorial gives us plenty of opportunities to
reflect on the arc of life. June 21st is Father’s Day, of course. It is also
Baptism Renewal Sunday – Baptism coins, too, for all our youth
baptized in June. Look at page 8 of this newsletter to see all our
sisters and brothers in Christ who were baptized in March, April,
May, or June. For most of us baptism happened near the beginning of
the arc of our life; God’s covenant of forgiveness, grace, love with us
was cemented in the water with the Word.

On June 7th we will give thanks for all who teach and all who learn,
especially for our graduates. Later that week our family travels to
California for our son Micah’s graduation from Santa Clara
University. Graduation from high school or college is a huge step
along the way in life, one we may take for granted. In many
Salvadoran communities, for example, students struggle to receive
the education they need. (Thank you for your Lenten Self-Denial
offering, which will allow several high school students in El Salvador
to continue their studies.)

June 14th is Older Adult Sunday. We will be blessed to have Pastor
David Keller, President/CEO of Luther Manor along with our friend
Prue Smith, Director of Community Services, to be part of this special
Sunday. Reflecting on the arc of our lives, I cannot find better words
than these from Memorial’s Ministry Priorities, “Be open to the needs
of our seniors and receive gratefully what they offer in ministry.” Think
about our life together, and how vital seniors are to all that
happens. But then, one could say the same thing about all age groups
at church. Wherever you are in the arc of life you have a vital role to
play in the ministry we share.

Father’s Day. Man! Two college grads already. I must be getting up
there in years. And then, every day when I go home Elijah (almost
14) is closer to eclipsing me in height, while his voice gets lower and
lower. Three great kids, Hannah, Micah, Elijah, plus lots more great
kids at church.

Older – yep. Expanding bald spot, and waist – you bet. Wiser –
debatable. Blessed – absolutely! Blessed all along the path of life.
